Lauren Hill Journal Entry Two Working Remotely for a Ukranian Company During War Problem: I am unable to have any contact or finish my training exercises and I am still getting a paycheck, but it has been hard being outsourced by a country at war. • War started in Ukraine • Men ages 15-60 were unable to leave the country and were expected to fight • Team stability with Ukrainian companies has become unpredictable due to no contact with my boss or HR • Mass graves found so that makes it more difficult and concerns for my bosses’ safety • I am still receiving a paycheck but have absolutely no way to contact my boss or the HR department because no one will respond • War has the most major contributing factor of the uncertainty of my job or the lives of my coworkers • Fighting increases the risk of death, and the bombing of the country has wreaked havoc on buildings and security of life • Mass graves could be reason for no response • A lot of business has relocated and shut down in Ukraine and that could be a reason I am no longer able to contact the HR department or the office • Risks include the war and the uncertainty of when it will be over • My boss and office overseas could no longer exist since no contact has been returned to me since January • I do not want an unexpected demand for payments I have still been receiving that is why I have kept record of all efforts of contact. • I love my job and my company, but I may need to come to the realization that they may never return, and it is time to start looking for another job. • One trap may be that I expect the war will end sooner and I will get more of an explanation. Positive outcome bias might be a trap for me. • Avoiding the need for a quick closure would also be a trap due to the hope if the war ends, I will hear from my company.

If they do, then I will know that my company is truly gone and I will need to find another source of income. However, if the payments continue, then I will know that my company is still functioning in some capacity and I can continue to try to contact them. I will also reach out to my network of contacts in the freight broker industry to see if anyone has any information on my company or what might have happened to it. Lastly, I will continue to look for job postings in the freight broker industry in case my company is truly gone and I need to find a new job. This solution is not perfect, but it will allow me to gather more information and make a more informed decision about my next steps. o Develop a Implementation plan 1. I will continue to monitor my PayPal account to see if the payments from my company stop coming in. 2. If the payments stop coming in, I will reach out to my network of contacts in the freight broker industry to see if anyone has any information on my company or what might have happened to it. 3. I did not want to just rely on the payments coming in to my PayPal account, because it is possible that my company could stop making those payments at any time. I decided to also reach out to my network of contacts in the freight broker industry to see if anyone had any information on my company or what might have happened to it. This way, I would have a better idea of what was going on and could make a more informed decision about my next steps. Another obstacle I encountered was trying to decide what to do if the payments from my company did stop coming in. I did not want to just assume that the company was gone and start looking for a new job right away. I decided to reach out to my network of contacts first to see if anyone had any information on the company or what might have happened to it. I would also continue to look for job postings in the freight broker industry in case my company was truly gone and I needed to find a new job. Lastly, I faced the obstacle of feeling as if I did not have all the information I needed to make a decision. I did not want to just blindly trust that my company was still in business and that the payments would continue to come in. I decided to do some research and reach out to my network of contacts to see if I could get more information about the company and what might have happened to it. Overall, I think the biggest obstacle I faced was trying to figure out how to best gather information so that I could make a more informed decision.
