Everyday Policy Impact Presentation

Students will develop and present a narrated  7-minute PowerPoint presentation based on the everyday policy impact worksheet. They will choose 2 of the 4 policies they identified in their activity and make a PowerPoint presenting the following information. In addition to a title slide, each policy will have 3 slides, and there will be a final slide with references for a total of at least 8 slides. For each policy topic, students will need 2 additional website resources and include one short video clip or GIF (1 minute or less).

Your presentation should include the following elements:

  1. Title Slide – Be sure to include your name and some pictures to preview what your presentation will cover.
  2. Policy Slide 1 – What is the problem and why is it a problem? Also, why do you think this policy is in place and who do you think established the policy?
  3. Policy Slide 2 – What is the impact of the policy? Who does the policy help/hurt? What are the intended and unintended consequences of the policy? What are the short-term and long-term effects of the policy?
  4. Policy Slide 3 – What recommendations do you have to solve the problem? Also, what would it take to get the policy changed? Explain your rationale.
  5. Repeat those last three slides for your second policy
  6. Final Slide – References in APA format.
  7. You should use pictures/graphs/charts and at least one short video clip or GIF to help illustrate the issue.

Your presentation must be uploaded to Canvas in 2 places. First as a submission for this assignment, and then to the corresponding discussion page so your classmates can view it during week 15.

FAM 475 Presentation – Everyday Policy Impacts Students are expected to understand the fact that policy has an impact on their day-to-day life, whether they are aware of it or not. What is policy? A policy is a deliberate system of principles to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes. A policy is a statement of intent and is implemented as a procedure or protocol. Policies are generally adopted by a governance body within an organization. (Wikipedia. Wikipedia.org, 8 Jan, 2020, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Policy. Accessed 10 January 2020.) Although you don’t need to include it here, you should be able to find a copy of your policy in the appropriate handbook (ie:, school handbook, parking regulations webpage, employment handbook, a sign posted at a facility, homeowners association handbook, email with the policy, or state/federal policy). For this assignment I would like you to do a scavenger hunt about policy that affects your day-to-day life. Complete the chart below, including 4 different policy impact topics. Note: you can’t pick any policy related to COVID-19 or mask mandates. State why the policy is important to you, how it has or could have an impact on you, why you think the policy is in place, and then take a picture of how the policy could impact or has impacted you. Policy found in Writing Why is this policy important to me? How has this policy had an impact on me? Why do you think this policy is in place? Picture of how the policy impacts me Wearing mask policy It protects me from contracting Covid 19 and other air-borne diseases. I have to wear a mask every time I go out. The policy was put in place to combat the spread of Covid 19. Mobile phone policy It reminds one to switch off the phone or enable the silent mode when in formal gatherings such as meetings and classrooms. One can miss important calls and messages as notification sounds are disabled (McEwen & Fritz, 2017). To reduce distractions in formal settings. Booking and ticketing policy I have to make prior arrangements whenever I need to travel. It is not possible to make abrupt travel arrangements; one needs time to make arrangements. To create a smooth flow of work processes without inconveniences. Overtaking policy (López Campos et al., 2020) It checks for road safety when driving on busy roads. I have to drive behind slow traffic, especially on two-way traffic roads. Promote road safety.
