Is it Better to Have a Bad Performance Appraisal System or None at All? (20 points)
Take a position on the following:
A lousy performance appraisal system or process is better than not giving employees any type of performance appraisal. Support your position with evidence or examples.

A weak performance appraisal system or process is not better than having a performance appraisal. A lousy performance appraisal is a system working and not knowing what is expected of you. Giving a performance appraisal benefit the employees and the organization. It helps the employees to understand company goals and what is expected of them. It provides managers with information to make decisions, regarding pay raise, promotions, and discharge. Performance appraisal gives employees feedback on their job performance to know where they need to improve their deficiencies and can ask questions about his or her performance and future performance. Some company gives once a year performance appraisal it is a tool to know about the employee and take a decision about a particular employee that may need more training. Performance appraisal is making administrative decisions which include all of the above.

Well, I have to say that a company should demonstrate affection towards their employees because they are the ones doing the work daily. However, almost all the companies now a day are doing performance appraisal, either for the good or bad of their employees, sometimes they name it differently, but it is the same idea to evaluate their employees’ performance. The question states if it is bad or none to have a bad performance appraisal, I would say that it should be mandatory once a year have either a good or bad performance. Why? Because in this meeting with the employee, the manager can review a couple of points that is expected form the employees, for example, if it is a bad performance most of the conversation will be on the negative point that the individual has demonstrated during the year, sometimes the employee will be sad, angry, frustrated, but also this can help to understand the expectations from management, also this can help decide the employee if they want to continue working for the company or look for a better fit for themselves. The point of this appraisal system is to help discuss between the employer and employee and to try for both parties be on the same page, and if there is any bad comments then share different point and prepare for the next performance evaluation.
